Principal’s Message

Happy New Year! I hope that 2013 brings the best to you and your family. It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first semester and already to begin a new calendar year. Please remind your student time will go even faster and that they need to continue to stay current with their studies and to take full advantage of all the help available at school.

We are appreciative of our students who donated money to our coin drive. Our students raised over $600 in two weeks to provide needy families with a turkey or ham dinner for the holidays. We thank all of our students for their generosity!

We would like to thank our students, Mrs. Kretschmer and Mrs. Pedersen for their excellent performances at the Christmas music program. If you have a son or daughter in one of our music programs, please encourage them to continue their involvement in music. Our Academic Olympics and volleyball seasons are underway with wrestling to follow. Good luck to all of your teams!

With the unthinkable tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, we want to remind parents that we are taking all precautions to continue to keep all students and staff safe at school. We will train all students and staff in monthly safety drills which, on occasion, may involve law enforcements. We will notify all parents and guardians of these drills in advance so that everyone is aware of the trainings. It is imperative that all guests coming to YIS sign in at the office and receive a guest pass if they are going to visit classrooms or staff outside of the office. Please enter the school through the main office as well. Remind your son or daughter to report to any staff member anything they feel might be a threat to anyone’s safety. We will continue to be visible and vigilant at our school!

As we are in the heart of winter, please be sure that your child is adequately prepared for the cold weather. Personal hygiene and hand washing also become critically important with the flu and cold season upon us.

Thanks again for all of your support of your child and our school and have a wonderful 2013!
